The centrepiece of the MAS swords is the Japanese blade made of L6 high-performance steel. This is finished in South Korea and assembled with the other components to form a complete sword, creating a sword of the highest quality at a price that is second to none.
L6 is a modern industrial steel with the best properties: it is light yet stable, hard but not brittle and hardly bends at all.
These are all properties that you want in a sword, but which other types of steel do not offer in this combination.
L6 is difficult to process and this is precisely where MAS's special skills lie. Because heat treatment resulting in a usable, differential-hardened blade has so far only been achieved by the well-known master blacksmith Howard Clark and MAS.
